Girls are Unhappy with Their Bodies
Lots of 13-year-old American girls struggle with body image. The struggle of body image has many reasons, but what seems the biggest impact is influence. Whether it's online or in person, one can be influenced easily just by the lack of knowledge on the subject at hand. So to help those, here are most percentages:
53% of American 13-year-old girls are unhappy with their bodies. This 53% grows to 78% by the age of 17. 50% of teens are self-conscious about their bodies and 45.5% have considered cosmetic surgery. 40-60% of elementary school girls are concerned about their weight or being "too fat." 59% of girls report dissatisfaction with their body shape and 66% of girls express the desire to lose weight. At 60, 28.7% of women feel dissatisfied and 32.6% feel self-conscious about their bodies. 43.7% of women over 60 report considering cosmetic surgery. When asked "Are you happy with your body?" 43.2% of teens answered "yes," and 37.7% of women answered "yes." 46% of 9-11 year-olds are "sometimes" or "very often" on diets. Many studies have been done at Stanford University and the University of Massachusetts that found that 70% of college women say they feel worse about their own body after reading the Women's Magazines.
So it does not matter the age, it seems all women struggle with body image, but our journey is to spread awareness and to try and help stop it.
Women's Wages Compared to Men's
The USA's Women's Soccer Team is one of the best in the world. The men's team is not good, compared to the women's. Yet, the men's team was still getting paid more. In 2019, the USA's Women's Soccer Team filed an action against the U.S. Soccer Federation, alleging violation of the Equal Pay Act and the Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. In 2022, the Federation pledged to equalize pay, appearance fees, and match bonuses for both teams.
There has been a gender pay gap ever since women started working in the United States. "In 2024, women earned an average of 85% of what men earned," said a researcher at the Pew Research Center. In 2003, women earned 81% compared to a man's wage. Women get paid less than men, even when they are doing the exact same job. It doesn't make any sense. It is hard to balance work and home life, especially when there is only one income coming to the house. For single moms, not getting paid enough is a struggle. Research has shown that being a mother can reduce women's earnings, but fatherhood can increase men's earnings.
For women of color, the gap is even bigger. The median annual earnings for a women is $57,520, which is $13,570, less than a man's. Gender discrimination is one of the main reasons. The U.S. has a history of underpaying and undervaluing the work a women does compared to a man. The average women is paid 76 cents per $1 paid for the average man. Overall, women must complete one extra degree of education in order to be paid the same as a man with less education.
Even if a man and a woman are doing the exact same job, the man will get paid more. The reason: he's a man and she's a woman. Why do women have to work harder to get paid enough to sustain their home, when men do virtually nothing and get paid more than enough?
STI / HPV or any disease throughout the years
To start 9 million women get diagnosed each year - females between 15-44 will have an STI testing or other fatal illnesses since the 1960s (recorded). Although stereotypically thought to have been through just men, 1.31% - 1.9% of lesbians have also gotten said STis, woman are 2-4 times more vulnerable to disease like that compared to any male , 1,033,036 women get chlamydia; 221,176 women have gonorrhea each year. (more to males) 13,765 - 13,065 women get sy[hilas. Kids (1995) is a documentary about HIV and the spread of it, it follows a young male who makes it his goal to take as many virgin girls and have them die of HIV (while he was positive HIV he didn't tell them) which was based on true events that happened from 1970-1990 where young girls would fall victim to it, without being warned of the possible dangers, every male and girl should know or be warned before they participate
